I placed an advert on gumtree.com on the lines of "we live in a world of genital reconstruction, airbrushing and hard core porn. What type of vagina have we created?" I then invited people to make a vagina for The Woman who had no Vagina in any art form. John from Oxford got in touch with me and I went to meet him one Saturday and photograph the doll.

I asked John for a comment for the art work and he responded with "i suggested that the doll be photographed with a fake vagina sex toy as I trhought this would add a sense of irony and humour to her work. the message I was trying to convey was that a body (doll) without a vagina is like a fake person. therefore a fake vagina without a body is also a fake person, so together they are an ironic statement of the human form as when you put them together in a picture they will do not represent the true value or form of a womans body.

As an aside I stayed in touch with John for several months after the project and then saw that he was looking to buy fake notes (monetary) on gumtree. I suppose we do live in a fake world.

Comments:
  • Ha!
  • This gives the illusion of a frog against the canal yet the illusion of a lose legged lady waiting at the port for her Mr Darcy.
  • In the carnal! Very beautiful exhibition.
